Two-fluid 20-moment simulation of fast magnetic reconnection

Abstract:

The 20-moment two-fluid-Maxwell model resolves diagonal pressure tensor components near the X-point when compared with Vlasov simulations of fast magnetic reconnection, in contrast to the 10-moment model. This occurs because, unlike the hyperbolic 10-moment model, the 20-moment model admits heat flux, which is a modeling requirement to admit steady-state 2D symmetric (driven) magnetic reconnection.
