Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly more prevalent in our daily social and professional lives. Although AI systems and robots bring many benefits, they present several challenges as well. The autonomous and opaque nature of AI systems may, for instance, affect the applicable legal and regulatory framework. In this comprehensive book, scholars from various legal disciplines critically examine how AI systems may have an impact on the law. KU Leuven CiTiP organises a one-day online conference in which some of the topics covered in this book will be presented by the respective authors. Several specific topics of private and public law will be addressed. The conference also provides an introduction to the concept of AI and its societal impact as well as a general overview of a number of regulatory and ethical evolutions and tendencies in the European Union. Two keynote presentations on AI will be given by leading scholars. Therefore, the conference’s intended audience is very broad including lawyers, policy-makers, legal experts/scholars, members of civil society organisations, AI practitioners, (post)doctoral researchers, students and other professionals with an interest in law and technology.
