Abstract:
In this study we have explored to what extend the mean borefield and fluid outlet temperature of a borehole thermal energy storage system (BTESS) can be predicted with simple linear models. This is necessary to solve the optimal control problem for a BTESS by means of conventional optimization tools. The study shows that both fast transients (with a time-scale of one hour) and slow transients (with a time-scale of a year) can be predicted with a fifth order linear model resulting in an accuracy of ± 1°C if hourly measurements over the time span of half a year are available.
