Abstract:

Lecture on the agency of sketching the (technical) architectural detail at the very beginning of a process of architectural design, instead of at the end of it. The lecture consists of 110 drawings (sketches) from the early design process of Boathouse 1 (a built architectural project by the author). These drawings are discussed one by one in a 120 minute lecture. The lecture has been requested by prof. Elizabeth Hatz and prof. Ger Carty from University of Limerick school of Architecture, in a joint masterclass organized on their behalf at KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture, ADO The Architectural Detail. The lecture has been combined with a second lecture, i.e., Charged Voids, brought by both visiting professors, and with a site visit to WoSho, a project designed and built by the author and visited on March 6th 2023 with the student teams from KU Leuven Faculty of Architecture and University of Limerick School of Architecture in the context of the agency of architectural detail.
