Abstract:

This paper discusses the organization, the administration and the results of a speaking exercise for students in their native language at the end of secondary school. This performance assessment was included in a large-scale national assessment in addition to paper and pencil tests. The combination of both provides a more complete picture of student achievement. The investigated attainment target was concretized in three evaluation components: a content evaluation, a linguistic evaluation and an overall evaluation. Test results report how students scored, on average, on each of these components. Analyses also show that the results of the linguistic evaluation are linked to each other and also to the overall evaluation. The different objectives of the content evaluation are less related.
