Abstract:

Monte-Carlo gamma transport simulations have been carried out, using the MCNPX2.7.d code, to assess the efficiency of the HPGe photo-peak detector of the Whole Body Counting (WBC) set-up of KCDoel, the Doel’s Belgian Nuclear Power Plant. Besides, various geometrical set-ups and standard samples (point-like γ-ray sources) were carried out with the aim at validating the virtual WBC set-up. The calibration set-up included a SCK’s home-made physical phantom called “EMMA”. The efficiency values obtained from simulations using the “computational EMMA phantom” (EMMA_COMP) were compared with the measured calibration data showing an average C/E-ratio of 2% for energies above 59.54 keV and up to 1.408 keV.
