Abstract:
Students from Master of Science in Architecture were asked to design and produce an installation of models in the historical shop front. These installations challenge the notion of the house as being a passive element in the development of public space. Starting from the premise that the house has a responsibility towards the quality of the public space the installations want to explore the constituting elements of the relation between the house and the public realm, between the inside and the outside. They are a reflection on the relation of the private space to the collective space and how architecture can play a role in this spatial and social dialogue. The thick historical walls (13th century) of the Studio Tuin en Wereld shop windows create this particular in-between space between private en public, between inside and outside. This in-between spaces create a great opportunity to start a dialogue between the inside and outside. Between the academic world and the public.
