Abstract:

A fast heuristic approach is presented to optimize staffing and scheduling at an aircraft maintenace company located at Brussels Airport. Two linked Tabu Search algortithms are proposed to minimize the labour costs and to maximize employee satisfaction. To enhance theperformance of the algorithm, strategic oscillation and pattern creation are used. We illustrate the performance of the algorithms with a computational experiment and compare the results to a mixed integer linear programming model.
