Abstract:

The relationship between fibroids and infertility, and certainly its therapeutic consequences, remains controversial. In this article a review of the available literature is presented. We conclude that fibroids are certainly a potential cause of infertility, though rarely the only one present. Submucous, intramural and subserous fibroids play a role in descending order of importance. In some cases, myomectomy can offer a safe and efficient solution to fertility problems, although more research is needed. At this point, the choice whether or not to perform a myomectomy has to be considered in each patient individually. The various elements which should be taken into account making this decision, are discussed.
