Abstract:
Novel technical approaches allowing formation of metal and composite structures using semisolid processing are presented. These include modified rheocasting and thixocasting techniques for forming a dense structure and selective laser sintering for forming a porous structure. Preliminary experiments on formation of metals and composites by the methods developed are carried out. Typical structural characteristics of the materials formed are considered. Main regularities of semisolid processing are discussed.
