Abstract:

Analytical expressions are derived for the intensity re-partition of light diffracted by a single frequency ultrasonic field with non-uniform amplitude distribution. It is shown that the simple Raman-Nath formula and its extensions for sharply bounded ultrasound can be used to treat diffraction by Gaussian sound fields within certain ranges of parameters.
