Abstract:

In my research, defects, mechanical behaviour and their correlation will be investigated with corresponding techniques and methods. Defects in composites always have a negative influence on mechanical properties of composites and in order to improve mechanical performance and service life of composite products, the correlation between defects and properties must be determined. μCT technique will be used to observe and determine the geometric characteristics of defects, such as fibre misalignment and voids, in filament wound composite products and then test the mechanical properties of the composite products with such defects. Models and simulation tools will be developed after experiments for analysing the effect of defects on the mechanical behaviour of filament wound composite products. Finally the optimisation of the materials and process parameters of filament winding can be achieved on the basis of experimental and theoretical results.
