Abstract: This article is focused on the study of the relationship between parents and schools. Using a mailed question¬naire this phenomenon has been investigated among a sample 2.811, mainly autochthonous, parents, and 147 immigrant parents in Flanders (Belgium). First, we study the behaviour of parents in schools, i.e. the par¬ticipation of parents in school councils or parents or¬ganizations, the parental involvement in the classroom, and their attendance of school activities. Second, atten¬tion is paid to the help of parents offered at home to their children during their study activities, and the way parents create at home a stimulating environment for their children. Third, we analyse the formal and infor¬mal communication between parents and schools. We conclude with some policy suggestions
