Abstract: One way of improving the tribological properties of elastomers is to incorporate solid lubricants in the rubber compound. This paper discusses the development of a new mixing process for the production of rubber compounds which,are modified with PTFE micropowder. Working on the basis of the functionalisation of commercial PTFE micropowders, mixing process profiles are presented which make it possible to achieve a chemical coupling between the PTFE micropowder and the rubber matrix during either the mixing process or the moulding process.
