Abstract: Intermetallic alloys based on the Ni3Si phase (here: Ni 20.4 at% Si 3.8 at% Cr) are investigated for applications in highly aggressive environments at elevated temperatures. Since the presence of brittle non-cubic phases is detrimental for the ductility of the material, the decomposition of the beta(1) Ni3Si phase is studied for the present alloy. It is observed that upon decomposition of the beta(1) phase, gamma Ni5Si2 is formed rather than the high temperature modification of Ni3Si.
