Abstract: The longitudinal section of a 40% cold-rolled aluminium plate is investigated by Orientation Imaging Microscopy (OIM). The classical pattern of grain subdivision into bands at +40degrees and -40degrees to the Rolling Direction (RD) is recognised. Furthen-nore, an analysis of the OIM results reveals that grains with a lattice orientation close to the {011}<100> component are more intensely subdivided than grains oriented along the beta-fibre. The eventuality that grain interactions are a driving force of this selective subdivision is considered using the LAMEL model. The latter focuses on interactions across grain boundaries parallel to the rolling plane. The level of subdivision measured by OIM is compared to the sensitivity to grain interactions that is predicted by the LAMEL model.
