Abstract: In the last few years noticeable progress has been made in the area of rubber processing. New concepts for quality assurance have been developed which require complete documentation of the product quality and monitoring of the production line and material and product development. Different methods for the batch check-ups are used in companies working with rubber materials. The main question for these companies is: Which physical characteristics can be related directly to the processing parameters, and accordingly to the characteristics of finished products? To answer this question it is important to examine reoccurring problems in various rubber processing steps using suitable mixtures. A process parameter-based method for choosing the relevant rubber compound characterization methods that are relevant for the prediction of compound processability and changes in the product characteristic is presented in this paper.
