Abstract: The diagenesis of Late Visean buildup and shelf carbonates from three boreholes in the Campine Basin (northern Belgium) has been studied to determine the early diagenetic pore fluid evolution in the basin. The earliest cementation occurred by isopachous fibrous and radiaxial fibrous calcites, which precipitated in a marine environment under oxidizing conditions. Neomorphism during subsequent diagenesis altered these cements extensively.
