Abstract: Monolithic integration of detector and readout electronics implies first of all choosing a fabrication technology and accepting the pros and cons offered by it. After briefly examining possible alternatives, we look in more detail at the use of a p-well CMOS process. combining p-channel transistors on the high resistivity silicon with n-channel transistors in a well. Guidelines for the design of circuits using this technology will be given. They will be supported both by experimental data, obtained from circuits realized in the IMEC HRCMOS process, as well as by data extracted from simulations. The incorporation of these rules in the design of an integrated pixel array will be shown.
