The Leuven School for Mass Communication Research studies the intended and unintended effects of communication on issues of health, social status, consumer behaviour, governance, violence, life cycles etc. The main focus is on quantitative research, but the methods depend on the questions the researchers are faced with; focus groups or observational studies are used alongside longitudinal cohort studies or experiments.

The Leuven School for Mass Communication Research is a multidisciplinary research group, comprising communication scholars, psychologists, sociologists, epidemiologists, and statisticians.
