Abstract:

« Prenant comme point de départ notre propre pratique, celle d’une collaboration de “photo-écriture” entre un artiste et un anthropologue, cette présentation réfléchira aux moyens de combiner différentes approches artistiques et anthropologiques pour explorer la ville, dans notre cas les contextes urbains du Sud, en particulier l’Afrique centrale. Dans quelle mesure l’ethnographie et la photographie (ou le film et la vidéo) révèlent une possibilité méthodologique commune, pour dépasser la surface urbaine et atteindre des strates plus intimes où la vie urbaine se génère? » “Starting from our own practice, a collaborative ‘photo-writing’ between a visual artist and an anthropologist, this presentation reflected on the possibilities of combining various artistic and anthropological approaches and inroads into the city (in our own case this means the urban contexts of the Global South, in particular Central Africa). To what extent do ethnography and photography (or film and video) reveal a shared methodological possibility to move beyond the urban surface and to reach into the more intimate folds where urban life is generated?”
