Abstract: The present work was designed to perform a comparative study on the beneficial effects of lighting programmes at young age on incidence of ascites and metabolic parameters of broiler chickens under local conditions of high altitude in Iran. Three hundred and sixty day-old broiler chickens were randomly divided over three rooms, in a high altitude farm and kept at low environmental temperature. In the first room continuous lighting (CL) schedule was maintained while in the second and third rooms intermittent lighting (1L : 3D) schedules were imposed from day 3 to 14 (IL1) and day 10 to 21 (IL2) of age. Post mortem examinations were performed on birds for detection of ascitic lesions and metabolic parameters were measured.
