Abstract: At present, Lake Kivu is considered to belong either to the Zaire ichthyofaunal province or in case of a subdivision of the Great Lakes, to the Tanganyika region. In view of the geological history of the lake and its present ichthyofaunal composition, however; we recommend including Lake Kivu in the same ichthyofaunal province as lakes Victoria and Edward-George, namely, the East Coast Province.
