Abstract: The workers of the thermophilic ant, Ocymyrmex laticeps, have large pygidial glands, the contents of which are dominated by indole-3-ethanol, a newly discovered substance in insect secretions. The Dufour glands of workers contain a mixture of saturated, unsaturated and methyl-branched hydrocarbons and small amounts of fatty esters.
