Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to develop a more flexible and adaptive line planning for public transportation. This means that the line planning must be capable of dealing with realistic (non-ideal) circumstances. In practice, the line plan is designed for an "ideal scenario", but these conditions can change during operation time. We want to make a plan or an extended plan that allows us to know how to respond when non-ideal circumstances occur during operation. We believe that constructing a more flexible bus network can be achieved by learning about its behavior under different circumstances and by getting insights in how to adapt the line plan when the scenario changes during operation. To learn about the line planning behavior, we perform a sensitivity analysis over a set of different scenarios. The results of this sensitivity analysis will be used to discover how to respond in a systematic way when non-ideal circumstance appear.
