Abstract: The concept of the MSP method is expressed mathematically using finite element notation.
The main challenges in MSP method namely the volume redundancy and interpenetration of the reinforcements are investigated.
A road map is proposed to construct a proper meso-unit cell using the MSP method.
To validate the MSP method, the stress/strain fields in different meso- models are compared with the full FE models.
The application of the MSP method in full field strain registration is illustrated in the case of a hybrid composite.
The intra-yarn and matrix damage simulations in a multi-layer 2D plain weave composite using the MSP method are validated with experimental results.
