Abstract: Interpreter training has traditionally been designed and implemented according to a set of normative and prescriptive guidelines without much interaction with other disciplines. A number of calls have recently been launched in the literature for interpreter training to be more research-led and in dialogue with other disciplines. The authors, who endorse this view, take a critical stance toward the main and common aspects of current interpreter training and present two interventions of interprofessional education – one in a healthcare setting and one in a police setting - which they lead in two Flemish universities. The authors draw on their training experience and share a set of reflections that could inform interpreter trainers wishing to approach interpreter training through the angle of interprofessional education.
