Abstract:

Previous research has integrated multi-echelon inventory management and supply chain responsiveness into the design of a supply chain by the use of the guaranteed service approach. We build further upon this work by integrating the production capacity and product flow to capture the supply chain’s responsiveness. The production capacity is modeled with a queuing network to handle both the variability of the production processes and the demand. We discuss that such a responsiveness measure is highly relevant for the vaccine industry. Therefore, this work is a first step to study the tradeoffs between supply chain responsiveness, inventories and production capacity for guaranteed service supply chains and aims to be applied to the design of a vaccine supply chain.
