The goal of this PhD is to develop new insights in the signals and analog building blocks needed for high accuracy, EM wave based, embedded locationing systems. In order to be able to derive the building block specifications, the most suitable frequency band has to be selected first. Therefore a model has to be made, taking into account both regulatory and analog implementation issues. Once the frequency band and accompanying specifications have been selected, the front-end topology and implementation most suitable for this application can be determined. This exploration results in one or multiple on-chip implementations, verifying the developed insights. This PhD has an elaborated link with industry. The PhD is also part of a group of PhD researches, that will be combined into a complete high accuracy ranging system aimed at practical application in industry.
