Abstract:

Sharing peer to peer knowledge and experiences about mental healthcare Introduction Mental disorders have a significant societal impact and the costs can be more that 4% of GDP (OECD, 2014). To improve the mental health of the population and mental health systems we need to share information and experiences about successful projects and obstacles. Objectives The section Mental health of the European Forum of Primary Care is a peer to peer group that focusses on sharing knowledge and experiences about mental health care is primary care. Aims In this workshop we will discuss briefly the main topics concerning mental healthcare on several levels: from political interest to the restrains of healthcare outcomes. The complexity of mental health problems will be clarified. We will present – in short – different best practices and experts in a specific field. Methods We try to sketch a landscape of best practices and highlight the experts in different areas in primary care mental health. Results Jan Lepeleire: A GP with more than 30 years of clinical expertise now focused in his daily work on the somatic care for psychiatric patients. Dineke Smit: A generalist perspective to mental health problems and mental health care is developed and also a specific training program. Also Ian Walton and Lisa Hill (UK) will share their expertise. Conclusions At the end of the workshop you have gained some insight of the mail topics concerning mental healthcare at a practical level. In addition you met some experts (workshop leaders and colleague participants) and have a brief conspectus of some successful projects in mental healthcare
