Abstract: MEDIATING BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE AND LIFE
Petra Pferdmenges

MAPPING LIVED SPACES - In the beginning of my research ‘Alive Architecture’ was a practice of mapping. I observed and documented occupation of public space.

PRODUCING LIVED SPACES - The challenge of producing occupation of space rather than understanding it was a crucial shift in my practice. Through 1:1 interventions I started engaging with the inhabitants of those spaces.

ENABLING LIVED SPACES – A final shift was from producing myself to empowering others to occupy space. The implication of local actors and their expertises makes it possible to generate an impact beyond the temporary, catalysing change in the neighbourhood.

THE ARCHITECT AS MEDIATOR - The architect takes the role of the mediator between architecture and life, designing a process open to involve multiple actors and their expertise.
