Abstract: Photoacoustic front detection is used to investigate the critical behavior of the thermal properties of CoO and Cr2O3 near their Neel temperature for different values of an external magnetic field. Critical fluctuations have almost no effect on the thermal conductivity. The specific heat capacity anomaly for ail fields can be discribed by means of power laws with critical exponents and amplitude ratios consistent with the Heisenberg universality class. The data confirm the antiferromagnetic nature of CoO and Cr2O3 and give a very steep antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition line in the low field range.
