Abstract: This conference presentation discussed the interpretation of the fall of Judas in John 17:12 and the themes of grace, free-will, and predestination in the biblical commentaries of Cornelius a Lapide, Franciscus Toletus, Gulielmus Estius, Thomas Stapleton, and Cornelius Jansen 'of Ghent.' It also examined the role of key patristic sources in their work, including the influence of Cyril of Alexandria, Basil of Caesaria, and most especially the influence of Augustine.
