The thickness, interface sharpness and microscopic structure of Co/Re superlattices are measured by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry using grazing angle of incidence, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and perturbed angular correlations. A comparative study of structural, magnetic and transport properties as a function of the glass or silicon substrate is reported.
