Abstract: The simplest examples of gauged supergravities are N = 1,or N = 2 theories with Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms. FI terms in supergravity imply that the R-symmetry is gauged. Also the U(1) or SU(2) local symmetries of Kahler and quaternionic-Kdhler manifolds contribute to R-symmetry gauge fields. This short review clarifies the relations.
