Abstract: Grammar is a historically and conceptually defined technique - describing a human activity - in which a modelization is applied to a body of linguistic phenomena. The modelization, involving a macrostructural and microstructural organization and a number of decisions, is coupled with three types of strategies: analytical strategies, presentational strategies, and strategies with an eye at (grammar) acquisition. Beyond this modelization and the correlated strategies, grammar is conditioned by a number of 'material' factors, such as the cultural setting, the linguistic structure of the language(s) described and the writing system used.
