Abstract: A new method for imaging and areal density determination of thin radioactive sources based on the detection of low-energy electrons emitted from the source surface is proposed. The feasibility of the technique was tested with a weak a-source. As an example of possible applications, the areal distribution of a Be-7 radioactive source was measured, which is of importance for the "solar neutrino puzzle". (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
