Title: Het geheugen van Rusland. Een geschiedenis
Authors: Coudenys, Wim
Issue Date: 2014
Publisher: Acco
Abstract: An 'alternative' history of Russia, based on the idea that history is not (necessarily) what has happened, but what has been written. In my book I describe the 'canon' of Russian history and explain how it came into being. Without a good knowledge of this canon, it is almost impossible to discern the historical references Russians and their politicians are constantly making, or engage in a serious discussion about the relativity of its content. Especially in a time of high animosity between Russia and the West, it is crucial to understand Russian history and its impact on Russian mentality, so as to better understand, refute or answer Russian historical and political claims.
