Abstract:

In this introduction the authors assess the importance of the work of Agostino Paravicini Bagliani. Twenty years ago Paravicini Bagliani published his grounbreaking book on the bodies of medieval popes. This special issue of Micrologus demonstrates that historians have picked up his suggestions and that their investigations into medieval and early modern princely bodies have shed new light on the political culture of these periods.
