Literatuur zonder Leeftijd: Vaktijdschrift over Jeugdliteratuur vol:28 issue:93 pages:60-80
How important is reading literature in its different forms for children in the digital age? In order to answer this question, a large-scale survey was conducted in which nearly 2000 children between the ages of 9 and 12 years old participated. The survey took place in 30 primary schools in Flanders. More specifically, the research analyses correlations between reading frequency and social or cultural origin, sex and age and between reading behavior and the possession and use of different media (PC, game console, cell phone, e-reader, tablet, …). Moreover, the survey aims to find out the status of reading literature within the whole spectrum of leisure activities in a rapidly changing world. Finally, also the children’s attitude towards digital books is looked into.
