Abstract: During sensory organ precursor divisions in Drosophila, the numb gene product segregates asymmetrically into one of the two daughter cells, to which it confers a specific fate by inhibiting Notch signaling. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Berdnik et al. show that Numb recruits alpha-Adaptin and that this physical interaction plays a role in downregulating Notch, presumably by stimulating endocytosis of Notch.
