Title: Violence and Conversion beyond War and Peace: From Tolstoy and Nietzsche to Levinas and Girard
Authors: Van Coillie, Geert # ×
Issue Date: 2015
Publisher: Routledge
Series Title: International Journal of Philosophy and Theology
Abstract: The paper aims to find a deconstructive and anthropo-ethical way out (Levinas and Girard), from a literary, historical, and philosophical frame of reference (Tolstoy, Clausewitz, Hegel, and Nietzsche), beyond the binary opposition between war and peace. The apocalyptic reason, inspired by the biblical anthropology, provides both a better understanding of fundamental (in)human violence, and a perspective on necessary and possible conversion.
