The project "Harvesting the Fruits" of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity bears the subtitle "Basic Aspects of Christian Faith in Ecumenical Dialogue" and calls in chapter 1 for “basic ecumenism”. But what is basic ecumenism and do we need it? In order to answer this the article addresses the following three questions: (1) What does the book "Harvesting the Fruits" as such hope to achieve? (2) Which are the issues of its first chapter? And (3) what comments and further questions arise from the notion of "basic ecumenism"?
