Abstract: Influenced by Father Henri Bosmans and George Sarton, Paul Bockstaele played an important role in the academic development of the history of mathematics in Belgium. His historical work grew out of his earlier research on the foundations of mathematics and his didactical interest in mathematics teaching. For many years Bockstaele taught a two year course on history of mathematics at KU Leuven.
