Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: Aiming at studying the presence of foreign female authors during the interwar period in Flanders, this project centers around three main questions. First, focusing on gender, the project wants to examine which image of women writing and of female authors was commonly held and how foreign (female) authors affected this representation. Second, with respect to national identity, the project will analyse how literature by foreign female writers played a role in the formation, consolidation or challenging of national identity. Thirdly, the project will scrutinize whether and how the work of foreign female authors influenced existing literary models and/or facilitated literary innovation.
