Abstract:

With the introduction and continuous improvement of digital detectors a dose reduction was predicted. Due to a lager dynamic range radiographs of sufficient quality can be produced with lower detector air kerma (DAK). However, this reduction was not observed. On the contrary, some authors indicate a creep towards higher DAK, explained by a better appreciation of the radiographs caused by a higher contrast-to-noise ratio. The authors investigated the relation between the DAK and the appreciation of image quality, described as ‘minimal detectable structures’ of MDS, by radiologists.
