Abstract: This paper compares two approaches to the derivation of subject-initial main clauses in Dutch: one in which the finite verb leaves TP and moves into the CP-domain (den Besten 1989), and one in which it remains in T° (Travis 1984, Zwart 1997). We present an argument from object clitic placement in dialect Dutch in favor of the former approach.
