Abstract: Sodium weeksite has been synthesized at 185 degrees C (1.3 MPa) from quartz, NaCl and uranylnitrate by a new method avoiding local supersaturation of silicate species in solution. Synthetic weeksite was synthesized from sodium weeksite by ion exchange. The unit cell parameters are determined for both synthetic weeksites and are very close to each other. The infrared spectra indicate the presence of ordered and disordered water molecules.
