Abstract: The Flemish Government has set the target to build only so called net zero energy buildings by 2030, i.e. buildings which produce at least as much energy as they consume. On one hand, the energy efficiency of houses has to increase significantly, for instance by reducing the energy needs and applying efficient Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems. On the other hand the need for locally produced sustainable energy increases. Important criteria for these houses are comfort, user friendliness, esthetics and affordability. An integrated whole-building design is essential to achieve this goal. The scope of the project is to create a manual, a design-tool and a Building Information Model (BIM) for net zero energy buildings.
