Abstract: A big diversity of mobile devices exist. Each type has different hardware specifications such as the type of processor or memory size. Moreover, resources such as memory or processing power are often limited. The diversity and limitations make development of mobile applications challenging. Mobile application developers benefit from having a platform independent framework. This allows for the development of applications for different types of mobile devices. Frameworks based on Java (e.g., Java ME) allow for platform independent development. A Java virtual machine is at least required. This paper summarizes the research results of a master thesis. It evaluates a set of Java virtual machines and uses one with major performance characteristics to implement a module based application management service.
